How to Choose the Right Dance Classes for Your Child 🩰✨

Dance classes can be a joyful and enriching part of your child’s life, but with so many options out there, how do you choose the right one? From ballet to breakdance, selecting a class that matches your child’s personality, interests, and goals is key to nurturing their love for movement and creativity. Here’s your go-to guide:

  1. Consider Your Child’s Interests and Personality 🎶💃

Is your child always grooving to music or twirling around the living room? Think about what style fits their vibe:
• Ballet – for grace, structure, and discipline 🩰
• Hip Hop / Street Dance – for energetic kids who love beats and freestyle 🕺
• Jazz / Tap – perfect for those who love rhythm and theatrical fun 🎭
• Contemporary / Lyrical – ideal for expressive, emotional movement 🌊
• Musical Theatre – for little performers who love drama, song, and dance 🎤🎬

Let your child help choose—they’ll feel more confident and committed!

  1. Pick the Right Age Group 🧒👧

Make sure the class suits your child’s age and stage of development:
• Ages 2–5: Try “Creative Movement” or “Pre-Ballet” for fun and basics 🌈
• Ages 6+: Look for structured beginner levels with room to grow
• Advanced kids? Ask about leveled programs and assessments ⭐

Right level = happy dancer!

  1. Check Class Size & Instructor Experience 👩‍🏫👀

A good teacher can make all the difference!
• Small class sizes mean more attention for each child
• Look for trained, experienced instructors who work well with kids
• Ask: Are they patient, positive, and supportive?

Happy kids = great learning!

  1. Visit the Studio 🏫✨

A welcoming, well-equipped space can help your child feel safe and inspired.
Ask yourself:
• Is the studio clean, bright, and safe?
• Do the kids seem engaged and happy?
• Is the energy supportive, not stressful?

First impressions count!

  1. Opportunities to Perform 🎭🌟

Many kids love the chance to show off what they’ve learned!
Look for studios that offer:
• Annual recitals or end-of-term shows
• Competitions or performance teams
• Exam options like RAD ballet certifications

It helps boost confidence and gives kids something to work toward!

  1. Check the Schedule & Commitment Level 📅⏰

Be realistic about what fits into your family’s life:
• When are the classes? After school or weekends?
• How often do they meet?
• Are there dress codes, exam fees, or long-term contracts?

Dance should be fun, not stressful for your calendar!

  1. Book a Trial Class 👟❤️

The best way to know if a class is right? Try it!
Most studios offer trial or drop-in sessions so your child can explore without pressure. It’s also a great way to meet the teacher and see the studio vibe!

Final Thoughts 💡
The right dance class can spark your child’s confidence, creativity, and coordination for years to come. Whether they’re leaping across the floor or grooving to a beat, the goal is joy. Take your time, explore the options, and choose the path that fits your dancer best.

Why Coming to Dance Class Every Week Really Matters

If you love dance, going to class is probably one of the best parts of your week! You get to learn new moves, see your friends, and have fun moving to the music. But did you know that coming to class every week is one of the most important things you can do to become a better dancer?

Let’s take a look at why showing up matters so much:

1. You Get Better Faster

Dance is like learning to ride a bike or play a sport… the more you practice, the better you get! When you come to class every week, your body remembers the moves, your muscles get stronger, and your confidence grows.

If you miss too many classes, it’s harder to keep up and remember what you’ve already learned.

2. You Don’t Miss Cool New Moves

Every class is different! Your teacher might teach a brand-new dance, start a fun game, or share a cool trick that you’ve never done before. If you skip class, you miss out on the fun… and catching up can be tough.

Think of it like building a LEGO set: if you skip a few pieces, the whole thing might not fit together right!

3. Your Dance Team Needs You

If you’re in a group dance, everyone works together like a team. If someone is missing, it can throw off the timing, spacing, and choreography. When you’re there, your team can practice together and help each other shine.

Being present shows that you’re a dependable teammate who cares!

4. It Shows Respect for Your Teacher

Your dance teacher works hard to plan fun, exciting classes for you. When you show up every week, it shows your teacher that you’re excited to learn and ready to try your best.

Plus, teachers love seeing your progress each week, and it makes them super proud!

5. It’s Just More Fun!

Let’s be real… dance class is awesome! You get to move your body, play with rhythm, laugh with friends, and express yourself in the coolest way. Why miss out on that?

When you come to class every week, you’re not just practicing, you’re making great memories.

Dance is more fun when you’re part of the journey every step of the way. So show up, stretch, smile, and let’s dance together!

Why Kids Should Try Lots of Different Dance Styles

Do you love to dance? Maybe you already take ballet, hip hop, or jazz. That’s awesome! But guess what? There’s a whole world of dance out there waiting for you to explore… and trying new styles can make dancing even more fun and exciting!

Here’s why learning lots of different dance styles is a great idea for every young dancer:

1. It Makes You a Better Dancer

Each dance style teaches your body something new. Ballet helps with balance and posture. Hip hop teaches rhythm and cool moves. Jazz brings energy and sharp motions. Even tap dancing helps you learn musical timing with your feet!

The more styles you try, the stronger and more skilled your body becomes. It’s like giving your dance toolbox lots of different tools!

2. It Helps You Try New Things and Boosts Your Confidence

Trying a new style of dance can feel like going on an adventure. You get to move your body in new ways, listen to different kinds of music, and learn new moves!

Learning something new takes courage. When you try a new style and start to get the hang of it, you’ll feel super proud of yourself. Even if it’s tricky at first, every little improvement is a big win.

You’ll also get better at picking up new moves fast, which helps in any dance class… and you might even discover a new favourite style!

3. It Makes Dance More Fun

Doing the same thing every week can get a little boring. But when you switch it up, dance stays exciting! One day you might be spinning like a ballerina, the next day bouncing to a hip hop beat, and another day learning a silly shuffle in a tap class.

Trying new styles keeps your dance life full of surprises!

4. It Helps You Make More Friends

Different dance classes bring together different groups of kids. By exploring more styles, you’ll meet new friends who love dance just like you do. Plus, you might get to perform in different shows or recitals with new teammates!

So… Ready to Try Something New?

Dance isn’t just one thing… it’s many things! Whether you twirl, bounce, stomp, or groove, every style you try helps you grow and have more fun. Don’t be afraid to step into a new class or learn a new routine.

Space, Evil Queens & A Magical Garden – A Day at The Theatre.

If you have been attending Dakoda’s Dance  academy over the last term you may have noticed a busy flurry of students running from class to class, paper flowers strewn around reception and the odd Magical gateway to another realm.

This is due to the Dakoda’s Dance Academy annual show at HMT piccadilly london ( link). We have teamed up with the wonderful guys at
Class talent to help put on a show that the kids (and fmailies) will remember for a long time. Now the show was on the 2nd december
and for all of you who attended we hope you loved it as much as we enjoyed makig it.

Our own 2 children Ashton,8 and Berry 4)
both danced in the show so we know the extra effort the parent had t to make sure their children turned up on time to rehearsals,
remembered their uniforms…..and of course helped practice at home.

For those of you who could attend the show, we all had a great time. Rehearsals were held at Marlborough school in London where the children were able to try on their costumes for the first
time. Act 1

Ashton Hosting at the Stoyan Kambarev Foundation Annual
Gala Dinner 2018.
The Stoyan Kambarev Foundation is an Academy that was created  to encourage and support young artists in different arts by annually awarding a prize that has established itself as the most anticipated and prestigious award of its type in Bulgaria. It is a Unique award in that it is not solely for a particular art form but covers many varied types of art (Music, Film, Dance etc).

Why am I talking about this you may ask. Well, we were contacted by the foundation and asked if Ashton Myers, who is one of Dakoda’s students was available to host at the gala dinner. Now, Ashton is a confident 8 year old boy. He has been studying Ballet, Hip-Hop, Singing and Musical Theatre for the past 5 years and was very excited to try out his stage skills.

Several rehearsals during his dance classes on a Saturday at Dakoda’s Dance Academy in Knightsbridge and he was ready to go.
